Carburetors
Carburetors have always been an important part of our accessory overhaul business. Along with magnetos, we’re known throughout the lower mainland for our expertise and ability to solve complex, hard to diagnose problems.
We’re one of the few Transport Canada certified carburetor shops in the area. We work on every major brand and have a large inventory of parts in stock. We also have a lot of knowledge and experience with antique aircraft carburetors.
Because we're a certified shop, we can often save you hundreds of dollars by troubleshooting and repairing your carburetor rather than installing a fully overhauled unit.
We often hear of pilots who’ve paid large sums of money to replace entire carburetors when $50 worth of parts and $150 in labor could have solved the problem for years to come.
Compared to automobile carburetors airplane carburetors are actually very simple devices; they have to be in order to provide the years of trouble free service they generally do. Because airplane carburetors haven't changed much, if at all, in the last 50 years, our long years of experience gives us an advantage when it comes to troubleshooting and repairing unusual or intermittent problems. Both of our carb tecnicians have well over 30 years in the trade and have each worked on thousands of carburetors; they know what they're doing.
We're also fully experienced and certified to work on the pressurized carburetors used on Pratt & Whitney R-985 and R-1340 engines.
Volare Service Bulletin SB-4
We are in complete agreement with Volare’s Service Bulletin 4. This SB requires brass floats be replaced within 100 hours or 90 days, or immediately if fuel is visbibly leaking from the carburetor.
Every year we pull apart Volare (formerly Precision Airmotive Corporation, formerly Facet Aerospace Products Company, formerly Marvel-Schebler), carburetors and find floats filled with fuel. For years we've been calling for this SB and in the interest of safety, we're happy to see it finally issued.
If your carb is subject to this SB give us a call. If you’re not sure if it applies to your airplane, we can arrange to inspect your carb and determine if you need to have the Service Bulletin applied. The actual parts and labor are quite reasonable in cost.
